Lough Key Forest Park Trail
Cycle along a quiet country road to the tiny Village of Knockvicar where you can take a break from the cycling and take a stroll on a nature trail to experience a unique Irish peat bog walk. This nature trail will take just over 1 hour - very tranquil experience with some hidden gems thrown in. You can then travel on to Lough Key Forest and Amenity Park which is located in an area of great historical interest and comprises of a vast woodland and numerous islands. Cyclists have free access to the visitors center and numerous walking trails with a wealth of historical and archaeological points of interest. This location is very popular for a family activity holiday in Ireland. Other fee paying activities available include: Boat hire and trips on the lake; Lough Key Experience Audio trail of the park history, flora and fauna and 300 m long tree canopy walk; Adventure Play Kingdom – enclosed stimulating play area for children; Boda Borg which is an indoor activity consisting of 47 different rooms of fun filled activities, imaginative puzzles and enjoyable tasks, hours of fun for children and adults; Zipit Forest Adventure – aerial trail activity center with zip lines, rope bridges, Tarzan swings and climbing walls. Advanced booking is recommended for some of the above activities. Restaurant facilities are also available in the Park. A trip into Boyle Town to visit Boyle Abbey and/or King House is well worth a visit. Comfortable shoes and clothing should be worn on this trail.
